Buffalo Gap Historic Baseball

Here's my photo story of a historic baseball team that plays out in Buffalo Gap, Texas. They were a fun group of guys that enjoyed each others company as much as the game.

Huck's Chuck

These are some photos I took of the Mike Huckabee rally that happened this Monday at the Taylor County Expo Center. It was a lot of fun shooting this. I enjoyed getting to see both Huckabee and Chuck Norris.

These are some photos I took of an artist that came to ACU and painted in chapel while some people sang. He created a painting that represented the Negro Spirituals they were singing. It was neat to see two art forms work together to create something.

We did a story on Kenya and all of the political disputes going on there and how it affected ACU students who are from Kenya. A large majority of those students are on the ACU track team. I got some photos of a couple of guys on the team talking with their coach after practice about issues at home.

This last photo is of a girl who is an ACU alumna that we did a feature on this week. She is now creating her own theatre company for "at-risk" children. Currently she is employed by Big Brother, Big Sisters.

Feature

Here is a photo that I took of a coach at ACU. He is the track hurdler coach and is well know for his love of jewelry. Here he displays many of his rings including a few championship rings from other universities he coached at.

And here are a few Sing Song photos from the week:

This week is going to be a long one because we have Sing Song this weekend. That means next week I will be putting all the best sing song shots on here. But for now here is a mix of the random assignments and projects I am working on. To begin...

These are shots from the play "The Crucible" that is going on here at ACU. I am working on sort of a progression of the play for the Optimist. There will be more shots next week of the final product.

These are sports shots from the week. I do not like taking pictures of sports, but it happens sometimes.

This week has been busy. I feel like I've been running around to lots of events trying to get some photos. However, many of them I do not feel like I did well on. It was sort of an off week. Here are some of the better...

This was at an event in the Bean Sprout called Coffee and Conversations. Our director of Multicultural Enrichment was singing old praise hymns. Here he is singing "Wade in the Water".

This is from some construction that is being done on EN 16th. We did a story on it this week because it affects a lot of students. It was hard to get a good shot because most of the construction was far away.

This is a photo that I just happened to see when I was walking into my apartment. I saw these birds up in the tree and as I walked toward them they begin to fly away. I was able to get a quick shot of them as they flew away.

The photoblog I am reviewing this week is an interesting one. It is called Non Photography (No Rules, Street Photography). She is an interesting photographer, because she considers her photographs unique and what she calls unconventional. She takes "street" photography and applies interesting and unique effects to the photos in Photoshop. She makes them look like old photos or Polaroids. This is something I'd like to learn how to do to photos.

The photographer's blog that I am reviewing this week is one that I just happened to come across when I was searching on Google. The guy's name is Mike Colon and he recently completed a teaching seminar/hands-on photo shoot that was for photographers wanting to be better wedding photographers. He taught them in sort of a workshop and then actually took them to an engagement shoot, a bridal shoot, and a church shoot. It looks like a really neat class. Lots of hands on experience.
Mike Colon's Blog

For my pictures this week I have a couple photos from 2 different assignments that I completed this week. The first is yet another track practice. I worked on zooming in better on the hurdler and I like the outcome a little more.

The second assignment was for Climate Week which is happening right now at ACU and is part of the "Go Green" initiative that ACU is undergoing. In these photos they are planting some trees around one of the dorms on campus.

I am going home this weekend and am in charge of getting some shots of my little brother's basketball games and some portraits of my sister. So I hope to have more to post on that next week!

Some photos from Christmas break...

Just wanted to add some photos I took of my beautiful friend Jennifer over Christmas break! We went out to an old country store that is now a restaurant and took some pictures around the old, rusted barn and rickety picket fence.

Getting Started...

For my first photo blog I have photos from several different events from the last week and a half. This first one is from a group that visited ACU called "Children of Hope". It was a group of orphaned children from around the world that travels internationally performing Christian songs and dance. They are connected with the organization World Help that provides aide for children worldwide by finding individuals to sponsor a single child for $30 a month.

They were a really sweet group of children that gave an amazing performance. There voices were very sweet and their ability to learn all of the choreography and perform perfectly on time was amazing.

The second group of photos are from the ACU's track team practice on Monday. Unfortunately, there were not many out practicing that day because it was a holiday. I was able to get a few of pole vaulters and runners jumping hurdles. I am not extremely happy with these photos because of focusing issues, but I want to keep trying and hopefully get better.

I looked at a really great wedding photographer's blog this week. The blog is www.josephmarkblog.blogspot.com. He takes more of a journalistic approach at weddings. While he still manages to capture a lot of the normal traditions and posed photos he still gets a lot of candid photos with a journalistic flair to them. I really was impressed with his lighting and loved the angles he chose.
